Welcome to the New Medical Pavilion at Howard Country
A State-of-the-Art Medical Center
A quality medical center serving Howard Country residents in Columbia, Ellicott city Anne Arundel County, and surrounding Maryland regions.
What is now the Medical Pavilion at Howard County (MPHC) started out as a farmer’s ten acres of land that was purchased by the Rouse Company, founders of Columbia. Over time, Howard Country General Hospital (HCGH) was growing along with the community, and eventually purchased the property from Rouse. Though this wooded parcel was originally envisioned as expansion space for HCGH’s medical center, it caught the attention of a group of local physicians with a vision for the future.
Our Physicians Vision
That vision was for a modern ,state-of-the-art, environmentally responsible hospital in which their medical practices, Howard Country’s largest and most progressive sub specialty medical groups, could grow and expand along with the Columbia/Howard Country community. Beginning with the first vision in late 2003. Dr. Michael G. Macon (surgery) and Dr. Michael E. Silverman (cardiology) led the medical center office building project, along with an executive committee that included Dr. Marc B. Applestein (urology), Dr. Edward J.(Ted) Lee (hematology / oncology), and Linda Chatterton, MBA, a former VP and Practice Administrator.
Over the next six years, the initial group of 63 physicians partnered with Howard Country General Hospital to develop the MPHC medical center project. We envision that this partnership will continue to develop comprehensive outpatient medical services in Howard County. With Mackenzie Commercial Real Estate as developers and Cogdell Spencer Erdman (previously know as Marshall Erdman & Associates) a nationally recognized designer of state-of-the-art medical facilities, as the design-build firm, what was just a”vision” among a small group of determined physicians in 2003 became a reality in the summer of 2009.
